Canberra (the capital) is set in a land depression, so it receives quite warm summers (around 28 - 37 celsius) and chilly winters (around -7 - 13 celsius) . Along the east coast, the further North you go, the hotter the temperatures get and the further south, the cooler. In the far West (Perth) temperatures are quite warm all year round and the northernmost city (Darwin) is extremely hot in summer and quite warm in winter.
