the general equation of a linear function is y=mx+b.
More often, people however write y=ax+b
a here is the coefficient - it determines the slope and b is the constant term and it determines the distance from the x axis
The function is graphed as a straight line, which is another way of saying that "the slope of the graph is constant"
The [tex] \frac{rise}{run} [/tex] is another way to calculate the slope!
