The entire slave population of the United States in 1800 was about one million. What was the slave population of Saint Domingue in 1789?

Respuesta :

Saint-Domingue was the wealthiest and most prosperous colony of all the colonies in the Caribbean. In 1789, whites numbered 40,000; mulattoes and free blacks, 28,000; and black slaves, an estimated 452,000. This was almost half the total slave population in the Caribbean, estimated at one million that year.
