Hiram Evans was a white supremacist member of the Ku Klux Klan. When he refrerred to "old-stock americans" he means "the not yet contaminated Anglo-Saxons". An important part of that role was protestantism, as Evans was very oppossed to Catholics.

The Ku Klux Klan (means White Racial Brotherhood) it believes in organizing the nation(US) on the basis of "old-stock Americans" these were the descended of the original setters of the thirteen colonies which mostly that British ancestor who migrated to America.
In 1920 various minority group got recognition, specially the African American. Many people were against racial equality. When Hiram Evans, member of Ku Klux Klan, mentions old-stock Americans, the means the not contaminated Anglo-Saxons. He was a protestant, as he opposed the Catholics.
