Jia is tiling a floor. The floor is asquare with side lenghth 12 feet. Jia wants the tiles to be squares with side lengh 2 feet . How many tiles does jia need to cover the entire floor? Note that the area of a square is s2, where s is the side length.explain.

1. Find the area of floor, using formula

Thus,

2. Find the area of each square tile with side length 2 ft:

[tex]A_{tile}=2^2=4\ sq. ft.[/tex]

3. Now 144:4=36 tiles are needed to cover the entire floor.

Answer: 36 tiles
