The cerebellum is the prime characteristic of the hindbrain in all the vertebrates. In humans, the cerebellum plays an essential function in the motor control. It may also take part in some of the cognitive activities, like language and attention, as well as in controlling fear and pleasure responses.  

The cerebellum in humans does not begin the movement but takes part in precision, coordination, and accurate timing, it attains information from sensory systems of the spinal cord and from other components of the brain and assimilates this information to the fine-tune motor activity.
