The Student non-violent coordinating committee (SNCC) played a major role in sit-ins, freedom rides and the march on Washington.
Students from across the country came together to form the student non violent Coordinating Committee and organize sit-ins at counters throughout the south. The SNCC was founded in April 1960 by young people dedicated to nonviolent, direct action tactics.
