Directions: Two quotes from Chapters 2-3 are below. After reading each quote, use the Text Editor to write comments about how these quotes relate to prejudice,
which is one of the themes of Dance Hall of the Dead. An example has been done for you.
Example: "Would a Zuñi ty deign to tread upon Navajo skin? Leaphorn instantly regretted the thought." After having a Zuñi roommate in college, Leaphorn
thinks Zuñii people feel superior to Navajos. So when a ty in the office of a Zuñi policeman jumps on his skin he makes a comparison that sounds like a joke,
but probably is based on his real feelings. Then, based on his Navajo training, he regrets that he thought that way and tries to correct it
Quote 1: "He drove down N.M. 53 toward Zuñi a little taster than he should, the mood bothering him because he could find no logical reason to explain it. Why resent
this assignment?" (Chapter 2)
Quote 2: "OK," Leaphorn said. "Then has he got any other friends there at school? Anybody else who I should talk to?"
"No friends there at school," Cecil said. "They're Zuñis." He glanced at Leaphorn, to see if he understood. "They don't like Navajos," he said. "Just make jokes about
us. Like Polack jokes." (Chapter 3)
