In this Unit, you studied prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and the differences between plants and animals. For this Project, you will need to present information about two protists--the euglena and the paramecium--and present arguments for reclassifying them as a plant or an animal. Currently, these one-celled organisms are in their own kingdom—the Kingdom Protista. They were classified as protists because they didn't fit into either the Plant Kingdom or the Animal Kingdom. Before you begin, review what you know about the similarities and differences between plant cells and animals cells, and look up information about the paramecium and the euglena. When you have finished, complete ONE of the following tasks:Pretend you are teaching a class of students about the similarities and differences between plants and animals, and you want to explain to them which classification you think the euglena and the paramecium belong in. Using the Presentation tool, create a digital presentation in which you demonstrate the similarities and differences between plants and animals, explain why the euglena and the paramecium were classified as protists, and argue why you think they should be classified as either a plant or an animal. Use images to help you demonstrate your ideas, as well as video and audio clips when possible and appropriate.
